Opinion: Germany not ready to win Euro Cup 2020, and that’s fine

Germany will not be challenging to lift the European Championship trophy in 2020, and that’s fine given the team’s new development cycle. The current squad lacks in two key areas, writes DW’s, Jonathan Harding. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Germany Euro Cup Tickets online to the witness live performance of Euro Cup 2020.

Germany might have finished top of their qualifying group and lost only once in 2019, but they are not going to challenge for the European championships next summer. Given that the team is in the first stages of a new cycle of development, this is exactly where Germany should be.

Both Joachim Low and Germany have recovered somewhat from the debacle in Russia last year. Low made changes to the faces in the squad and the style of play, and as the European Championship looms, it is clear this new Germany has taken that first step in their rebuild.

In Serge Gnabry, Germany (and Low) finally have the explosive striker they have been looking for since Timo Werner failed to fill the role. The midfield quartet of Toni Kroos, Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan, and Leon Goretzka is beginning to gel, transitioning into different roles and taking up different positions throughout games.

The decision to move Kimmich out of the right-back spot was bold given his excellence in the position, but, with every passing game, he is looking more accomplished as both a playmaker and a holding midfielder.

While Kroos and Gundogan aren’t going to be leading like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Goretzka’s ability to score gives Germany a free-scoring midfielder for the first time since Michael Ballack.

Low’s attempt to get Germany playing more transitional football rather than the heavy, possession-based approach that cost them so dearly in Russia is gradually paying off.

The recent swatting away of weaker opposition is important for team unity and pushes the wobbles from early in the year further from memory.

Nevertheless, the team’s evolution remains in its early stages. Injuries have hampered Low’s ability to develop more than a core, and it takes time to get a new group playing a new style of football — especially after such a tumultuous 18 months. Add to that, Germany is short of any elite players in defense.

With Germany’s best defender (Niklas Sule) likely out of the tournament due to injury and Low refusing to acknowledge Mats Hummels’ club form, there is little stability or standout quality in the heart of the defense.

Matthias Ginter has stepped up, but there are too many question marks about all the other options. Defensively, the major consolation is that Manuel Neuer has returned to form — well, returned for everyone but Marc-Andre ter Stegen that is.

The Euros will serve as a key building block towards Germany’s chances of challenging for the 2022 World Cup when Low — or whoever heads the national team then — will look to have a group of players at their peak.

Until then, Germany is short of quality in defense and still developing their ability to play a new style of football. Individual talent could lead them to a surprise spot in the final, but a quarter or semifinal finish is more likely.

And, in truth, that’s fine. This is not a golden age of German football, nor is it the disappointment of last year. The foundation for this new team has been set. Now it’s time to build.

Euro 2020 Qualifiers: Germany, England look to consolidate qualification in final stretch

Euro 2020 Qualifying stages are quickly reaching its endgame, with the last couple of qualifiers. All set to go down in the next fortnight to decide which team will move ahead to the competition next year. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Germany Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

England’s team has a golden opportunity to end their qualification campaign in style, as a win against Montenegro should be enough to get them through. Furthermore, there’s a new controversy for Gareth Southgate to deal with.

After Raheem and Joe Gomez got in an alleged scuffle at international duty, forcing the 3 Lions to rule out Sterling for the next game, the tensions are high in the squad.

A win is typical to bring parity to things, as England must prove their quality by beating Montenegro, which will make the trip to Kosovo a mere formality for them.

German euro team players are also in search of confirming qualification having had some stumbles in their own qualification process. They’ll look to get maximum points from the remaining set of games while hoping the in-form Netherlands drop points to end their qualification group in the first place.

Dutch are undefeated in their last four qualifiers, but a trip to daunting Northern Ireland will be anything but comfortable.

Of course, even if they lose to the Netherlands, the Green and White Army could still qualify for the playoffs round, but Michael manager Michael O’Neill is not its biggest fan.

Regardless, their game will probably be the biggest of the last round, but there will be a few other nations scampering to make a last-ditch effort at keeping their qualification dreams alive.

Iceland will probably have to be content with a playoffs place as they’re still 4 points behind France and Turkey in Group H. The World Champions take on Moldova and Albania in their remaining matches, but they’ll be hoping Turkey drop points to win the group.

Wales are also in hollow ground and in desperate need of back-to-back wins to even make the playoffs round. Winless in two, they must defeat Azerbaijan and Hungary in their remaining matches and hope Slovakia slip up to even make the playoffs round at this point.

Croatia, on the other hand, needs just one win to attain qualification and should be able to get that done in their next set of fixtures. Fans from all over the world can buy Croatia Euro Cup Tickets online.

Scotland has already progressed into the play-offs round and will be thankful for that. With Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and Ryan Fraser ruled out of their final qualifiers, defeating Cyprus and Kazakhstan will be difficult but still quite possible.

Spain, Italy, and Belgium have already progressed into the tournament. They’ll probably experiment with some new combinations for the tougher tasks ahead and give chances for the underused players to prove their mark in the last few Euro qualifiers.

Euro 2020 – Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels

There are renewed calls in Germany for Joachim Low to recall Mats Hummels just months after telling the Borussia Dortmund defender that his time in the national team was over. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Germany Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

The calls for his return focus principally on the serious knee injury suffered by first-choice center-back Niklas Suele playing for Bayern Munich at the weekend but they also come on the back of some impressive performances by Hummels in the Bundesliga and in the Champions League.

Hummels has rebooted his career since leaving Bayern in the summer to return to Dortmund. He represented 225 times between 2009 and 2016 when he left for Munich.

Another eye-catching performance marshaling the back four at Inter Milan in Wednesday’s Champions League match could prompt a rethink by Low.

“If ‘Jogi’ Low doesn’t do it now and reinstate Hummels, I will be enormously disappointed,” former Germany midfielder Steffen Freund told broadcaster Nitro.

Germany fans appear to agree. A survey published on Monday by Kicker magazine showed 77% of 96k people who responded want Hummels back in Germany’s famous white shirt.

“Low has so far ruled out a return of Hummels, arguing that it was necessary to leave room for Suele, but an injury to this promising player will force him to review his strategy,” said Kicker in an editorial.

Euro Cup 2020 - Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels
Euro Cup 2020 – Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels

Low’s decision in March to send Hummels and his Bayern teammates Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng into international retirement sent shockwaves through German football.

Hummels, who made 70 appearances for Germany, said at the time that he did not bear a grudge against Low but admitted that he had been stunned.

“I took a blow to the head and didn’t really know what was going on,” he said.

Hummels has since rediscovered his best form back with Dortmund and produced a commanding display last month when Barcelona was held to a goalless draw at Signal Iduna Park in their opening Group F match.

And after Suele, Low’s defensive cornerstone, tore his cruciate knee against Augsburg on Saturday, ruling him out of action for at least six months, Hummels might just be the right man in the right place.

Euro 2020 qualifier- Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels
Euro 2020 qualifier- Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels

While Low described the news as very bad, Bayern president Uli Hoeness was more direct. Apparently, the season is over for him, he said on Monday. He can forget about the Euros.

Suele’s injury is, indeed, bad news all round although Bayern can adjust as 2018 World Cup winners Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard, as well as Boateng, can all fill in at center-back.

However, Germany lacks the same strength in depth and Freund was blunt about Germany’s chances at the Euro 2020 finals, which start in June, if Hummels is not recalled.

“If we go to the European Championships with [Antonio] Rudiger and [Matthias] Ginter, we won’t be European champions,” said Freund.

He describes Suele’s injury as a catastrophe for Germany, making Hummels’ recall all the more urgent before next month’s final two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Belarus and Northern Ireland.

Euro 2020 qualifier- Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels
Euro 2020 qualifier- Pressure on Germany boss Joachim to recall defender Mats Hummels

The Germans are currently neck-and-neck with the Netherlands at the top of their group with the top two teams qualifying.

Dortmund manager Lucien Favre insisted last month, before Suele was even injured, that Hummels should without question be part of Low’s plans.

“If I had the opportunity to wear the national team jersey again, I wouldn’t refuse,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t be holding his breath.

I try to think about it as little as possible. If it comes, it comes.

Hummels is right to be pessimistic as Low is known for stubbornly sticking to decisions once his mind is made up.

However, another good performance by Hummels in Milan on Wednesday might help sway Germany’s 2014 World Cup winning coach into a rethink.

Russia’s Stanislav Cherchesov, who reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup at home last year, had only to avoid defeat in Nicosia to follow Belgium in Group I qualifying.

Valencian winger Denis Cheryshev opened the scoring in the ninth minute, before Magomed Ozdoev, the author of a fabulous long-term strike against Scotland, scored the game half-way through the middle of the first half.

In the 28th minute, Kostas Laifis was sacked for a crazy defeat against Russian back Sergei Petrov.

Forward Artem Dzyuba scored his third goal in two games in the 79th minute, before Aleksandr Golovin and Cheryshev’s second goal completed the pass.

Russia will try to overtake Belgium, who beat Kazakhstan 2-0 earlier Sunday at the summit that will host the first world team on November 16th. For live action, you can buy Russia Euro Cup Tickets online.

The finals of the European Championship, which will start on 12th June next, will take place in 12 different places of the continent, including Saint-Petersburg in Russia.

Poland started their match against North Macedonia knowing that the victory would allow them to win the Euros.

They had to be patient with the visitors, who could qualify for the playoffs after winning their League of Nations group if they did not do it automatically.

But Przemyslaw Frankowski scored at home less than 60 seconds after coming into play in the 74th minute, before Akardiusz Milik scored.

Poland are three points ahead of Austria, who won 1-0 in Slovenia, leading Group G, five points behind North Macedonia and Slovenia.

Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands remained top of group C, ahead of Germany. They beat Belarus with a nervous 2-1 win over Belarus in Minsk.

The Netherlands took third place, Northern Ireland, with three points after beating Michael O’Neill’s 3-1 on Thursday.

Georginio Wijnaldum led the opposition team in the 32nd minute, shortly after Denis Laptev missed a golden opportunity to give Belarus a head start.

The Liverpool midfielder had doubled the advantage before the break with a magnificent 25-yard strike in the turn, and although Stanislav Dragun gave hope to Belarus early in the second period, the Netherlands have stood firm.

“We have to do better than we did in the second half, even though everything was under control at the end,” Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk told NOS television.

“We are now very close to qualifying for the finals, and ultimately that’s what counts.”

The victory in Belfast against the Northern Irish next month would ensure Oranje’s first major tournament appearance since being third at the 2014 World Cup.

Germany easily won 3-0 in Estonia despite Emre Can’s dismissal in the 14th minute.

Ilkay Gundogan, who, with Can before the kickoff, had “unliked” a controversial post from Cenk Tosun, the Turkish striker, scored two goals, while Timo Werner also found the net.

Joachim Loew’s team will welcome Northern Ireland in their last match, which could decide the second place.

“We had to regroup after the red card, the team did well after the break, we did not concede and scored three goals,” Loew said.

GROUP A

Nov. 14: England vs. Montenegro, Czech Republic vs. Kosovo
Nov. 17: Bulgaria vs. Czech Republic, Kosovo vs. England

England needs a point at home to Montenegro, and even if they were to lose at Wembley they would get over the line as long as Czech Republic vs. Kosovo is not a draw.

Czech Republic can qualify with a win at home to Kosovo, who needs a victory in the game to stand a realistic chance of qualifying. If Kosovo manages that, a point at home to England in their final qualifier would guarantee them a place at the finals. Kosovo does have a League D playoff, should they require it.

Ukraine has qualified, and Portugal is sure of joining them if they win at home to Lithuania and in Luxembourg, meaning they are firm favourites.

Serbia has to hope Portugal fail to win one of their games. That appears unlikely, while Serbia wins at home to Luxembourg and Ukraine. Serbia is guaranteed a playoff if they finish outside the top two.

GROUP C

Nov. 16: Germany vs. Belarus, Northern Ireland vs. Netherlands
Nov. 19: Germany vs. Northern Ireland, Netherlands vs. Estonia

Netherlands will qualify for the euro 2020 finals if they avoid defeat in Northern Ireland on Nov. 16. Even if the Dutch suffer a defeat, leaving the two nations level on points, they would remain favourites with Estonia to play at home while the Irish travel to Germany.

Germany is second on head to head and level with the Dutch on 15 points. They can qualify if they win at home to Belarus for the next time. A point would also see them to the finals if the Irish are beaten.

Northern Ireland is three points behind but all 12 have come against the group’s lesser lights. To have a chance of qualifying automatically, Northern Ireland will now surely have to win at home to Netherlands and in Germany and hope one of their rivals drop surprise points.

There is an unlikely scenario where all three nations finish on 18 points, which means it would come down to head-to-head goal difference as each team would have beaten each other once and lost once. To enjoy most exciting matches, grab your Germany Euro Cup Tickets.

GROUP D

Nov. 15: Denmark vs. Gibraltar, Switzerland vs. Georgia
Nov. 18: Republic of Ireland vs. Denmark, Gibraltar vs. Switzerland

The Republic of Ireland remains on top of the group from Denmark on head to head. They only have one qualifier remaining, at home to the Danes, and are guaranteed to qualify with a win as long as Switzerland does not draw one of their two remaining games.

If Switzerland draws a game, and Denmark beat Gibraltar, the 3 teams will finish on same state for 15 points. They will also be level in the head to head mini-league, meaning it comes down to goal difference in games between the 3 teams. In this scenario, Ireland will have to win by two goals to qualify at Denmark’s expense; Switzerland would be guaranteed to qualify.

If Denmark gets at least a point against Gibraltar, they would be then assured qualification with a point in Dublin. They can’t qualify if they lose to Ireland, like addition, Switzerland beat Georgia and Gibraltar.

Although Switzerland sits outside the top two, they are now firm favourites to qualify. They are sure to go through with 4 points from games against Gibraltar and Georgia. Their injury-time 2nd goal against Ireland means they no longer have to win both matches.

GROUP E

Nov. 16: Azerbaijan vs. Wales, Croatia vs. Slovakia
Nov. 19: Slovakia vs. Azerbaijan, Wales vs. Hungary

Croatia leads on fourteen points and will be guaranteed qualifying if they at least draw at home to Slovakia on Nov. 16 that will be their final qualifier.

The second place is held by Hungary on 12 points, but they have only one match remaining, away in Wales on the final day. If Slovakia fails to beat Croatia, so there will be chances for Hungary will be guaranteed to qualify with a win in Cardiff.

Slovakia sits 3rd on ten points, and while they face the difficult trip to Croatia, the final fixture is at home to Azerbaijan, who have only one point. Win both games and they will qualify. If Slovakia wouldn’t win in Croatia then, they will still be guaranteed to qualify if they beat Wales and Azerbaijan draw at home to Hungary.

Croatia Euro Cup 2020 qualifiers
Croatia Euro Cup 2020 qualifiers

Wales only have eight points and must win both their matches to have a chance, the first being a way to Azerbaijan. They must also hope Slovakia fails to win one of their matches. If Slovakia and Wales finish level on 14 points, Wales will qualify on the head-to-head rule. The community who love their favorite team they are booking Croatia Euro Cup Tickets.

There is a combination of that leaves the 3 teams tied on fourteen points. In this eventuality, it would be 1. Croatia, 2. Wales, 3. Slovakia.

GROUP F

Nov. 15: Norway vs. Faroe Islands, Romania vs. Sweden
Nov. 18: Sweden vs. Faroe Islands, Malta vs. Norway, Spain vs. Romania

Spain has secured their place, but the real battle follows behind as Sweden in second, one point ahead of Romania with Norway a further three points behind.

Sweden should only need a point in Romania as they have Faroe Islands to play at home on the final day.

It means Romania know they must beat Sweden to be in contention. If Romania wins against Sweden and in Spain, qualification is guaranteed. If they then draw their final match in Spain, they would need to have beaten Sweden 1-0 or by two goals or more to be second on the head to head. Because Sweden play Faroe Islands, it is very unlikely they are able to qualify if they lose to Spain.

Sweden Euro Cup 2020 qualifiers

Norway must beat Faroe Islands and Malta, and hope Romania-Sweden is a draw and that Romania gets no more than a draw in Spain, and Sweden loses to the Faroes. Again, the Sweden-Faroes fixture effectively rules that out. Those who don’t want to miss the entertainment have already bought their Sweden Euro Cup Tickets.

Sweden and Norway have a guaranteed playoff should they need it.

GROUP G

Nov. 16: Slovenia vs. Latvia, Israel vs. Poland, Austria VS North Macedonia
Nov. 19: North Macedonia vs. Israel, Latvia vs. Austria, And Poland vs. Slovenia

Poland is through and Austria are almost there too, five points clear of Slovenia and North Macedonia with two games left to play. They will qualify with a point at home to North Macedonia, even if they lose their 1st game, a point in Latvia then will almost certainly see them in the finals.

North Macedonia must win in Austria to stay in contention, then beat Israel at home and hope Austria lose in Latvia (who don’t have a point). If Austria draws in Latvia, North Macedonia would need to have overturned the 4-1 head-to-head deficit with Austria in their meeting.

North Macedonia and Austria would both be guaranteed a playoff.

There’s only slim hope for Slovenia, who must win at home to Latvia and away to Poland hope Austria lose both their games, and North Macedonia fails to beat Israel.

Israel has a similar situation to Slovenia. They must win at home to Poland and in North Macedonia, and need Austria to pick up no points as well as Slovenia failing to win a game. They are almost sure of a playoff. Poland Euro Cup Tickets can be grabbed from our global event ticket sales market.

France needs a win at home to Moldova in their next game to qualify for euro 2020. Moreover, if they fail to get the victory, they will be through if Iceland fails to beat Turkey.

Iceland now only have very slim hope. They would need to win both games and hope Turkey fail to beat Andorra or hope France pick up no more than one point. Playoffs

The best-performing nations from the UEFA Nations League who do not qualify automatically for Euro Cup 2020 will get a playoff place.

The UEFA Nations League rankings are as follows. The first four nations are guaranteed a playoff, should they need it. If a team qualifies automatically, then that place passes down the line.

As it stands, the teams in bold would enter the playoffs. Romania would likely be drawn into the path of League A because, as hosts, they require a playoff route to the finals that does not include another host and Scotland, as Nations League group winners have the right to take the League C path.

Euro 2020 – Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team without hope

If there is such a thing as an earthquake in a teacup, then Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness caused one this week in German football. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Germany Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

Infuriated by the ongoing debate over whether Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer should make way for his younger counterpart Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Bayern’s famously red-faced patriarch said he would sooner boycott the national team altogether than see Neuer give up the number one jersey.

Euro 2020 - Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team
Euro 2020 – Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team

We would never accept a changing of the guard, Hoeness was quoted by Sport Bild magazine on Wednesday. Before that happened, we would stop releasing our players for international duty.

Like Bavarian pretzels, Hoeness comments are usually best taken with a sprinkling of salt, but this was quite the threat. A Bayern boycott would leave Germany coach Joachim Low without the likes of Neuer, Niklas Sule, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry.

It would leave the national team dressed in all positions and without even the faintest hope of winning Euro 2020. Germany without Bayern players is simply unthinkable. For live action, you can buy Euro Cup Final Tickets online.

Since as long as anyone can remember, which in football terms is 1960s, Germany’s international success has been built around the stars of its biggest club. From Franz Beckenbauer to Neuer, the so-called ‘Bayern Block’ has dominated every German team worth its salt in the last five decades.

The heroes of Germany’s first World Cup-winning side in 1954 may have come from Kaiserslautern, Nuremberg, and Essen, but since then, German success has been made in Munich.

Euro 2020 qualifiers - Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team
Euro 2020 qualifiers – Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team

In the late 1960s, a golden generation of Bayern players emerged to knock city rivals 1860 off their perch and rampage to a decade of success at both club and international level.

A Germany side built around Beckenbauer, Paul Breitner, Sepp Maier, Gerd Muller and Hoeness himself were crowned European Champions in 1972 before winning the World Cup in their own Olympic Stadium two years later.

Beckenbauer would later remark that without the goals of stubby little poacher Muller, Bayern would still be a club run out of a little wooden shed. Similarly, Germany’s status as an international behemoth would arguably be unthinkable without that generation of players. Beckenbauer, Muller, and co.

Set the tone for the next five decades in which a strong Bayern block became a prerequisite for international success.

In 1990, Germany won the World Cup final with five Bayern players in the starting line-up. At Wembley in 1996, there were six of them. Come 2014, Low started the World Cup final with six Bayern players and two former Bayern players and sent on Bayern player Mario Gotze to score the winner. Those who don’t want to miss the entertainment have already bought their Euro Cup Hospitality.

Euro 2020 qualifier - Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team
Euro 2020 qualifier – Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team

By now, there is an unspoken, symbiotic relationship between the national team and the country’s biggest club. Bayern provides the Germany set-up with a well-gelled core of high-quality players, and the promise of international selection helps the club to poach the best German talent from clubs around the country.

Low, like many of his predecessors, has always understood on which side his bread is buttered. Having built his World Cup-winning side around the likes of Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Thomas Muller, the fortunes of Low’s Germany have always been intertwined with those of Bayern.

In 2012, just a few weeks after Bayern’s shock defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final, the same core of players succumbed again to a supposedly weaker opposition in the Euro 2012 semi-final against Italy. In 2018, with many Bayern players struggling for their best form, Germany crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage.

Low’s reliance on a strong Bayern block has also earned him criticism. The disastrous decision not to pick Ter Stegen and Leroy Sane in Russia last year saw the Germany coach accused of over-reliance on an aging group of Bayern stars. For years, he has also had to rebuff grumblings from Borussia Dortmund that their players are too readily overlooked.

Irritating Dortmund is one thing. Irritating Bayern, with all their arrogance and influence, is quite another. In the post-traumatic rebuilding process after last year’s World Cup, Low’s clumsy handling of certain selection decisions has infuriated the Bayern hierarchy.

The sacking of Bayern trio Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller earlier this year already had Hoeness and co. frothing at the mouth. Aside from accusations of disrespect, there was a sense in Munich that Low had bowed to public pressure at the expense of his relationship with Bayern.

Come to the debate over Neuer and Ter Stegen, Hoeness the Godfather spied a useful opportunity to remind the Germany coach who his friends are.

Hoeness has since rowed back on his comments, and the idea of a boycott should not be taken all too seriously. Germany is nothing if not a nation of lawyers, and many have been quick to point out that Bayern would not be able to withdraw their players from international duty without risking punishment.

Euro qualifiers 2020 - Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German national team

The bullish Bayern president is more likely enjoying his last few months in the public eye before he finally steps down later this year. Hoeness was always good for a controversial quote, most of which were uttered with a twinkle in his eye.

This, after all, is the man who once rubbished claims that Jurgen Klinsmann was the ‘Barack Obama of German football’ by saying that, if that were the case, then I am Mother Theresa.

Following his comments this week, Munich newspaper Abendzeitung had a less flattering comparison. Hoeness’ recent comments made him appear more like Donald Trump, the paper wrote, concluding wryly that at least he doesn’t use Twitter.

As a player, general manager and later club president, Hoeness has been arguably the central figure in the successful relationship between Bayern and the national team over the last 40 or 50 years. The threat of a boycott was his way of pointing that out, lest anyone should have forgotten. But rest assured, the earthquake will remain firmly in the teacup.

The countries highlighted above are those you can confidently back in both of the fixtures in this International break. I have converted the bookies’ odds ‘to win’ into percentages for both fixtures and then ranked the top eight from best to worst.

Belgium on Top

Belgium came out on top with two extremely favorable fixtures. They host a San Marino side who are planted at the bottom of Group I with no goals or wins, as well as 28 goals conceded in their six matches so far. To enjoy most exciting matches, grab your Belgium Euro Cup Tickets.

San Marino has conceded 18 goals in their three away fixtures in qualifying. Eight of these were shipped after the 60th minute, which is specifically suited to Romelu Lukaku. Almost 60% of his International goals have come in the second half of games and he’ll surely be one of the most popular choices for captaincy in any FantasyBet contest if he starts.

However, Michy Batshuayi is likely to feature heavily in both fixtures. Roberto Martinez decided to start the Chelsea man in their last meeting with San Marino and, to be completely honest, they would probably still hammer San Marino and Kazakhstan with ‘insert any name’ leading the line. Even Benteke would have a chance of bagging a goal or two.

Italian job done?

Italy also hit the 90’s in terms of the bookies implied win percentage across their two fixtures. They sit comfortably at the top of their group with six wins from six and a +15 goal difference.

Italian job done - Euro 2020 Qualifiers

They have shared the goals amongst themselves with six players scoring twice thus far, including Moise Kean and Fabio Quagliarella. Those two have a 17-year age gap between them, though unfortunately both have been excluded from the squad for the upcoming fixtures. For live-action, you can buy Italy Euro Cup Tickets online.

Andrea Belotti is perhaps their first-choice striker and has been in fantastic form, with five goals in six Serie A fixtures as well as a brace in his last start for his country. Also don’t forget their defenders.

Leonardo Bonucci is always a reliable fantasy pick, while Giovanni De Lorenzo has impressed for Napoli recently, and will fight for the RB spot. Keep an eye on the starting line-ups when building your squad.

Dutch Dominance

The Netherlands ranked third according to the bookies. Despite trailing Northern Ireland in Group C, they have played a game less. They’ll be confident of winning that crunch match to claw back second spot.

Dutch Dominance - Euro Cup qualifiers

Memphis Depay has been a standout performer in qualifying so far with four goals in his nation’s four qualifiers. Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum has also benefited from a more attacking role with two goals and an assist in his last two qualifiers.

Best of the Rest

Poland, England, and France all benefit from good fixtures in both rounds. Their players most likely to score big in fantasy are fairly obvious and include the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Raheem Sterling, and Antoine Griezmann. In defense, I would suggest Jan Bednarek, who has established himself in the heart of Poland’s defense, Trent Alexander Arnold who takes the majority of set-pieces for England and Alphonse Areola, who will step in between the sticks for the injured Lloris for France.

Euro Fantasy Round 7 & 8: Other Favourable Fixtures

PORTUGAL Luxemburg (a) 95% Ukraine (a) 47%

ROMANIA Faroe Islands (a) 80% Norway (H) 42%
AUSTRIA Israel (H) 71% Slovenia (a) 37%
CROATIA Hungary (H) 75% Wales (a) 42%

Looking to target a single fixture to hit those differentials in your fantasy football tournaments? Well, this table above is your perfect companion to locate those free-scoring attackers or else the easiest route towards a clean sheet.

From Portugal, obviously, Cristiano Ronaldo is the cream of the crop. He scored four of his side’s five goals as they defeated Lithuania in Round 6. Wonderkid Joao Felix and the much talked about Bernardo Silva are cheaper alternatives for that Luxemburg fixture.

Germany will play a friendly match rather than a Round 7 qualifier, but their Round 8 fixture is very attractive. Estonia is rock bottom of the group, conceding 3.6 goals on average per game. Germany Euro Cup Tickets can be grabbed from our global event ticket sales market.

Euro Fantasy Round 7 & 8 - Other Favourable Fixtures
Euro Fantasy Round 7 & 8 – Other Favourable Fixtures

Serge Gnabry is in the form of his life and is worthy of a spot in your midfield. Meanwhile, the RB Leipzig fullback duo of Marcel Halstenberg and Lukas Klostermann are exciting prospects in their new-look defense.

Being Scottish, I rarely feature their national team in my articles. This isn’t an honest attempt at being impartial or anything, it’s just they’re pretty bad at football. Although they do have some decent individual talent and it would be silly to ignore a home fixture versus San Marino. Ryan Christie and Andrew Robertson are my picks of the bunch from Scotland.

Affordable Alternatives

Iceland and Georgia also have their go-to players in these sorts of matches. Things aren’t going to plan for Gylfi Sigurdsson in the Premier League, but he is always heavily involved in everything his country does well. Iceland Euro Cup Tickets can be book online which makes you suitable to link the Euro Cup 2020.

Valeri (Vako) Qazaishvili is also worth a mention for Georgia’s away trip to Gibraltar. Having followed the MLS for three seasons now, he is a solid fantasy option who has an extremely direct approach and has the potential to do damage from the left wing in easier fixtures.

Elsewhere, Andriy Yarmolenko will look to carry his club form onto the international stage against Lithuania and Oleksandr Zinchenko will also have his eyes on goal, having scored from left-back in Ukraine’s last qualifier.

Robin Quaison is doing a good job of chipping in with the goals for Sweden since Zlatan’s retirement. The Mainz striker has four goals in his last six for his country and also a goal every other game in the Bundesliga. They will also fancy themselves for a clean sheet vs. Malta, and center-back Andreas Granqvist is also the designated penalty taker.

Euro 2020 qualifying: What the actual fixtures are???

Permutations are fun, and a word almost exclusively saved for attempts to make sense of contrived qualification campaigns for major football championships. It just so happens that one is coming towards its conclusion you might have noticed. The field for Euro 2020 is taking shape and, with 1 week of games left, the scenarios are becoming rather more clear.

Every country now has either 1 or 2 games left to play in next month’s final international break. The top 2 teams from each of the 10 groups will qualify automatically, with 6 of those 20 spots already taken. Football fans can book England Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Euro qualifiers – England need 1 point against Montenegro or Kosovo to qualify for main round

The remaining four places will then be decided by those darn Nations League-based play-offs. So let’s take a look at who should start clearing their schedules for the continent’s ambitious 24-team party next year.

Who has already qualified for Euro 2020?
Ukraine and Italy have booked their spots as guaranteed winners of Groups B and J respectively. Spain in Group F, Poland in G, Belgium and Russia both in Group I will join them at Euro 2020, but whether they finish top or 2nd in their groups is yet to be decided.

Who is likely to join them for Euro 2020?
England, who need a point at home to Montenegro or away at Kosovo next month. They would even qualify if they lose at Wembley, provided the Czech Republic’s game with Kosovo does not end in a draw. Portugal will emerge from Group B, alongside winners Ukraine, with victories against Lithuania at home and Luxembourg away.

Netherlands and Germany both know that avoiding defeat in 1 of their 2 final games against Northern Ireland will be enough in Group C, as long as they win their other matches against Estonia and Belarus respectively. Football fans can book Germany Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Euro 2020 – Avoiding defeat in 1 of their 2 final games against Northern Ireland is enough for Germany to qualify for main round

Switzerland is 3rd but in the best position of a complicated Group D.If Switzerland gets at least 4 points against Georgia at home and Gibraltar away, they will qualify for Euro 2020. Croatia must avoid defeat against Slovakia in their remaining game to make it out of Group E.Austria need just a point at home to North Macedonia to qualify behind Poland from Group G.

The top spots in Group H will go to Turkey if they avoid defeat at home to Iceland and even if they lose that game then beat Andorra and France if they beat Moldova. Finland will join Italy at the finals their first-ever with a win at home to Liechtenstein, or if Bosnia fails to beat Italy.

What about the other automatic spots for Euro 2020?
Czech Republic qualifies from Group A if they defeat 3rd placed Kosovo next month. Kosovo must win that game, then draw at home to England in their last match, to take their place. Football fans can book Czech Republic Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Czech-Republic-Euro-Cup

Serbia is relying on the unlikely event of Portugal failing to beat either Lithuania or Luxembourg. If the reigning champions do falter, winning their games against Luxembourg and Ukraine would be enough for Serbia to emerge from Group B.Northern Ireland will likely have to beat both Netherlands and Germany, with either of those teams dropping points in their other games.

If they do beat both but Netherlands and Germany pick up expected wins against Estonia and Belarus respectively, Group C’s top 3 will all finish on 18 points. Head-to-head goal difference would then be used, which could still rule Northern Ireland who has previously lost to both Germany and Netherlands by 2 goals each out.

Sweden faces the Faroe Islands in their last qualifier, so a draw against Romania would put them through, provided they then predictably beat one of Group F’s whipping boys. Football fans can book Sweden Euro Cup Tickets on our website on exclusively discounted prices.

Sweden-Euro-Cup
Euro 2020 – Sweden faces the Faroe Islands in their last qualifier

Romania takes 2nd spot by beating Sweden a game they would have to win 1-0 or by 2 goals to be clear on the head to head if they draw their final match in Spain. Winning both games takes Romania through. Norway is relying on a number of results, including the Faroe Islands beating Sweden, to have any hope.

North Macedonia must beat second-placed Austria, then win against Israel at home while Austria loses to Latvia, who have lost all eight of their games in Group G so far. Even if Austria draw against Latvia, North Macedonia would have to overcome the 4-1 defeat they suffered to Austria in June to go above them on a head-to-head basis.

Slovenia is also relying on some mental results, such as winning away at Poland and Austria losing both their games. Iceland faces Turkey and Moldova and must win both games to stand a chance in Group H. Even then, either Turkey would have to draw or lose to Andorra, or France get no more than one point against Moldova and Albania, for Iceland to make it and knock England out in the last-16 again.

Both Bosnia and Herzegovina have to beat Italy and Liechtenstein, with Finland also picking up no more than one point against Liechtenstein and Greece, to join Italy from Group J.

Euro 2020 – Loew backs Neuer in Germany goalkeeper debate

Head coach Joachim Loew made it clear, that Captain Manuel Neuer would remain the first German goalkeeper, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen at double, until the Euro 2020 final in June.

Barcelona-born goalkeeper Ter Stegen has complained of being stuck on the bench during the Dutch home match against the Netherlands 4-2 last month in a key Euro 2020 qualifier for the Netherlands. Sports enthusiasts from around the world can purchase Germany Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness has even threatened to prevent their stars from playing for Germany in the event of the fall of Neuer. An idea he quickly abandoned after realizing that such actions could lead to Fifa sanctions.

Loew refused to enter the debate and solved the problem forcefully by announcing his team for Wednesday’s friendly against Argentina in Dortmund and the qualifying match for Euro 2020 four days later in Estonia.

Substitute goalkeeper Ter Stegen will play in a friendly against Argentina, who is not suspended with Lionel Messi, while Neuer returns for the important qualifying match in Tallinn.

“For both games, I have decided… that Marc will play in Dortmund and ‘Manu’ (Neuer) in Tallinn. We have told both players,” said Loew.

“I have emphasised several times that Manuel Neuer is our captain, and therefore also our No 1 for the time being, with the European Championship in mind – if nothing out of the ordinary happens”.

The Germans have to beat Estonia to stay ahead of tight Group C. The Netherlands, who are in third place, are only three points behind with one game less, while Northern Ireland is tied with the Germans with 12 points.

They crushed Estonia, which lost their five qualifiers so far, 8-0 when the teams met in a group match in Mainz last June. Elsewhere, there are no surprises in the team with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Nadiem Amiri as the only newcomer.

Ilkay Gundogan (whom Pep Guardiola recently called “one of the best rookies in Manchester City history”) and Serge Gnabry, who has 21 goals, scored four goals in the 7-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League in midweek.
