Poland coach Jerzy Brzeczek has hit back at comments from Jan Oblak. Fans are excited to get their Poland Euro Cup Tickets to see live performances of their favorite team and players.
After the Slovenia goalkeeper said that in his side’s first match against Poland “he had more to do talking to journalists than on the pitch”.
Poland and Slovenia will face each other in Warsaw on Thursday in their final Euro 2020 qualifying match, where Brzeczek’s team will be looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat in the previous game in Ljubljana.
“I’ve heard that Oblak had nothing to do in that match,” said Brzeczek at Monday’s pre-game press conference.
He is a world-class goalkeeper, but there was no humility in his words. We have already qualified for Euro 2020, whereas the Slovenian players will watch the tournament on TV.
The coach added, “Our goal is to take three points. We lost the first match against Slovenia, but we were playing well for the first 35 minutes. Set pieces can always change the situation. Sometimes you have to lose to build something strong.”
On Saturday, Poland defeated Israel 2-1 in Jerusalem.
We are happy that we won that match, Brzeczek said. In the first half we played with aggression, but we should have been more clinical, as we wasted a lot of chances. If you play so well, you have to close out the match by scoring the next goals.
Having already secured top spot in Group G, a win on Tuesday could see Poland in the best possible pot for the Euro 2020 final tournament draw, though Brzeczek was at pains to point out that this would not necessarily mean an easier group.
“We don’t look through the prism of the pots,” the coach cautioned. “We were drawn from the first pot at the 2018 World Cup and were eliminated in the group stage. We shouldn’t calculate and think which result would be the best for our team.”
After nine matches, Poland has 22 points. Slovenia has 14 and can no longer qualify for the finals, with second-placed Austria five points ahead with one round of matches to play.
“I would like to send our congratulations to Poland,” said Slovenia head coach Matjaz Kek. “I have huge respect for our rivals. We have to find solutions to build a stronger team for the next challenge.”
